If I Could Make You Love Me

The words were familiar as I stood there starring into the pillars that held the ceiling like concrete hands.

I began writing my soul into these pages as if writing them in blood. I said, “if I could make you love me, would it mean that I could turn back the commodity, time that most would die for more of as it relentlessly moves at its own pace forsaking everything that is anything, leaving nothing. If I could make you love me, would it mean that we would overlook and somehow reroute ourselves beyond the challenges that robbed us of a future? If I could make you love me would it mean you’ve forgiven my offenses to see the person you’ve always known I could be but I never knew how to become? If I could make you love me, would it be worth it if you don’t love me because you choose too, but because I wanted you? If I could make you love me, that would be a risk I’d chance anything to take. If I could make you love me, would you in fact love me and even if you didn’t I’d still give 10 lifetimes to have you try.”

Finally, I recognized the song playing through the air. It said, “you can’t make your heart feel something it won’t.” The music stopped and my spirit evaporated.

If I could make you love me, my life like an old house would be entirely renovated!
